The story behind Hulls

Why I chose pest control

This was never simply a change of career. It was a homecoming—to the industry my father devoted his working life to.

I now have 16 years of hands-on experience in pest control, built on a lifetime of knowledge passed down by my late father, Geoff Hull, who devoted his full working career to the industry.

A new challenge built on problem-solving

My own career change was born from the financial crash of 2008, when I became the second generation of our family to enter pest control. I became professionally qualified in the industry in 2010. It was a major change, but having spent my working life in an industry built around problem-solving, pest control felt familiar in some ways while presenting a completely different kind of challenge.

But it was never simply another role. In many ways, it felt like coming home. I was stepping into the world my father had cared about so deeply, carrying forward the knowledge, values and sense of responsibility he had passed down to me.

I have always enjoyed testing myself—from starting work at 16, through my construction career and now into my fifties. Every pest-control job presents a different puzzle: understanding how the problem began, how the pest entered the property, how it is moving through the building and which remedy is right for that particular situation.

Following in my father's footsteps

I feel deeply honoured to have followed in my father's footsteps and to carry forward a role he was so passionate about. After 16 years in the industry myself, I now fully understand why the work meant so much to him. At its heart, the job is about looking after people and protecting their homes—their castles.

From building castles to protecting them

Before pest control, I completed 27 years in high-end fit-out construction. My work included projects at Wimbledon and private residences across Europe for Emirati clients from Dubai, where exceptional standards, care and discretion were essential.

That experience gave me a thorough understanding of how buildings are put together and how pests can move through wall cavities, ceiling voids, floors, drains and service routes. It is knowledge I use on every investigation, especially where activity is hidden or another treatment has addressed the pest without finding the underlying route into the property.

I began my career helping to build castles. Today, I look after people and protect their castles.

“Pest control is never simply about traps and bait. To resolve a problem properly, you must understand how it started, how the pest is moving through the building and what needs to change to help prevent it returning.”

Lee Hull

Who will look after your pest problem?

Hulls Environmental Services is an established family-run company, not a call centre or an anonymous national chain. Lee is the main person responsible for new call-outs, investigations and the problem-solving side of the work because he genuinely loves the challenge. He assesses how the issue began, how pests are entering or moving through the building and what is needed to resolve the underlying cause—especially when the answer is not immediately obvious.

Our other trained technicians look after routine servicing and regular contract clients, providing dependable continuity of service. This means customers receive Lee's direct experience where investigation and problem-solving matter most, supported by a wider team for planned and ongoing pest management.
